Soroptimist members give back to community

Members of Soroptimist International of Courtenay presented 10 bursaries of $500 each, totaling $5,000, to six North Island College students and four high school students to help continue their education.

Seven service providers were awarded funds totaling $4,066 for purchases helping them operate their programs. These organizations were Amethyst House of the Comox Valley Transition Society, Comox Valley Therapeutic Riding Society, L’arche Comox Valley, Comox Bay Care Society: Care -A- Van, Stepping Stones Recovery House for Women Society, Glacier View Lodge Society, and 1000×5 Children’s Literacy Program.

The grand total was $9,066 and the funds came from a grant from BC Gaming.
