The competition featured 550 secondary and post-secondary students from every province and territory competing in 40 applied trade competitions. Competitors had to have won gold at the Skills Canada Provincials in order to participate in nationals.

G.P. Vanier Secondary sent two students to the nationals accompanied by their coach, Vanier applied arts teacher David Randall. Grade 11 student Josh Childs competed in Secondary Electronics and Grade 12 student Joseph Thoong competed in Secondary Graphic Design. Childs won the bronze and Thoong the silver medal.

Both students intend on competing for a chance at gold medals next year.

Josh hopes to again represent Vanier while Joseph will be attending VIU in the bachelor of design program.

Students were also coached throughout the year by Shannon Williams (design) and Steve Claassen (tech).

The team received tremendous support in their efforts from Wachiay Studio, Sure Copy, the Cumberland Brewing Company, and many private individuals who donated cash, positive reinforcement, and resources.

Josh and Joe would like to thank all the donors, teachers and coaches who contributed to their success.
