SALTWATER SCHOOL officially opens to students this fall.

The Waldorf-inspired Saltwater School, the Comox Valley’s newest independent school, will start classes in September.

The Saltwater Education Society held an open house last Saturday to celebrate the purchase of school’s new building in Courtenay’s Tin Town area.

The building for the Saltwater School, the former Rosewall Wellness Centre, will undergo extensive renovations for school use in September.

Applications are being accepted for mixed-age kindergarten, and Grades 1 and 2 classes and the parent and tot program. New classes will be added annually up to Grade 8.

The open house attracted many families and neighbours interested in the new school. Children were treated to storytelling, a singing circle and other activities while adults toured the school building, examined plans for the building renovations, enjoyed displays of student work, and met the teachers and board members.

The Waldorf approach to education emphasizes the role of the imagination in learning, and develops thinking that is both creative and analytical. The goals are to provide young people with the basis from which to develop into free, morally responsible and integrated individuals.

There are about 1,000 independent Waldorf schools located in 60 countries throughout the world.

For more information, call the school at 250-871-7777 or visit the website at www. saltwaterschool.com.
