Weather warning issued for the Comox Valley

Series of storms to hit the east coast of Vancouver Island this week

Welcome to fall. Get your rain gear ready.

Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for East Vancouver Island, including:

• Courtenay to Campbell River

• Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay

• Duncan to Nanaimo

The advisory warns of a series of systems producing heavy rain and strong winds for the rest of the week.

“The first system arrives on Vancouver Island tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 22), and will spread to the mainland before Wednesday morning and continue through Thursday. Rainfall intensity will vary through the day and across regions. Over Vancouver Island, total rainfall amounts over the two day period will generally range from 15 to 40 mm, with amounts excess of 100 mm over West Vancouver Island.

“As the system progresses, winds across the Strait of Georgia and surrounding regions will peak early Wednesday morning at 50-70 km/h.”

Environment Canada urges residents to prepare for the possibility of localized flooding, as well as power outages.

The wet pattern will continue with more rain expected Friday and Saturday.
