Wedding one day, war the next

The Comox Valley Record reached out on our social media channels, encouraging community members to submit photos of those who have served our country. This is Candy Dimery’s submission.

These are my grandparents, Stella and Bill Davies. I miss them both a lot. My grandfather gave me the nickname my family knows me by (short for Candice). My grandmother fed an army… literally and figuratively. She cooked a meal any time someone drooped by for a visit. Food was her love language. There are so many things to remember and be thankful for.

This was their wedding photo, taken the day before my grandfather was deployed in the Second World War.

One thing I am thankful for is my freedom. My grandparents made sacrifices to make sure that their family could have a good life. Thank you.

Thank you to all our service people of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
