There’s an entertaining evening of music planned at the Mex Pub on Feb. 7, featuring the roots music of BettyBGidd.

The evening is a fundraiser for the Comox Valley Food Bank Society and admission is by donation.

The music begins at 7:30 with an instrumental set by the Snow Monkeez featuring Steve Ruskin on keyboard, Blaine Dunaway on violin and Bruce Wing on guitar. Door prizes will be drawn after the show.

The music of Gidd and Bettyanne Hampton is steeped in roots and stylistically eclectic songs; their music is driven by a range of influences from John Prine to Greg Brown, Guy Clark and the like, and delivered in a style all their own. There’s a comfort in their performances - a seamless musical connection between long-time life partners/musical mates, but with enough fraying around the edges to keep it interesting and groovy.

Well known in the Comox Valley, the Hamptons are returning after spending a few years in northern B.C. and the interior. Gidd (guitar/vocals) and Bettyanne (accordion/bass) have performed as a duo in venues throughout the province, and in festivals and special events as BettyBGidd with bandmates Dave Tolley, percussion (Xavier Rud, Nine Mile, Michael Franti); son Jesse Hampton, bass (10 Minute Cement, Greasy Garage Band); Dirt Road Opera with Juno Award winners Barry Mathers (Cruzeros) and Rachel Matkin (Lilith Fair); and as side players with Western Canada award winning Twin Peaks and others.

“Most recently we’ve enjoyed coming back to the Valley and reconnecting with the musical community,” says the Hamptons. “We’ll be looking forward to joining our friends and hosts Judy and Bruce Wing for this great fundraising event.”

“With good friends returning to the community, and lots of reconnections to be made, I’m sure it will be a heartwarming evening for a good cause,” says organizer Judy Wing.

The 1st Tuesday fundraiser happens on the first Tuesday of each month. It pairs local musicians with local charities. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/1stTuesdayFundraisers.
