Kite making is one of the workshops scheduled for this summer.

The Comox Valley Art Gallery will be running a series of art-making workshops this summer.

The workshops are for all ages, and will be held at the CVAG Outdoor Plaza in downtown Courtenay. Led by members of the CVAG team, the workshops are inspired by the current Diane Landry: Matière dans le Temps | Matter in Time exhibition.

The next two workshop are on Friday, July 19, and Saturday July 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the CVAG plaza. Friday’s event will be a pinwheel workshop and Saturday’s event will feature solar prints with guest facilitator Gabe Moore.

After that, workshops include:

- Casted shadows, July 26, from 1 to 4 p.m.

- Found Material Sculptures, Aug. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m.

- Kite Making, Aug. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.

- Pinwheels, Aug. 16, from 1 to 4 p.m.

- Screen printing, Aug. 23, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The sessions are facilitated using materials created by CVAG student interns. The events are free of charge, with donations gratefully accepted. Everyone is welcome to attend, and materials are provided.

Along with the Summer Make Art Series, CVAG will host special events in conjunction with Pulse on the Plaza summer parties on July 26 and Aug. 23. There will be participatory on-demand screen printing and a make-art drop-in station on those days from 4 to 8 p.m.

Finally, this summer CVAG will also be hosting an ongoing self-guided art making station for all ages in the CVAG lobby throughout the current exhibition, which runs until Sept. 14. Visitors are welcome to ask the team members for assistance.

These programs were developed by CVAG's summer interns, inspired by Landry's exhibition.

"Landry is known for her kinetic sculptural works and performances that utilize light, shadow, sound and movement. Much of her work incorporates the use of upcycled materials," a release from CVAG says.

CVAG is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments for small groups may be arranged at other hours by sending an e-mail to gallery@comoxvalleyartgallery.com
