Join CVAG for screening of new short films at the Sid Williams Theatre on June 30

The Comox Valley Art Gallery’s Youth Media Project is collaborating with the Sid Williams Theatre for a screening of new short films at the Sid Williams Theatre on June 30 at 7 p.m.

It is a free event and anyone interested in watching can go to the Sid Williams Theatre’s website to live-stream the films. The film screening is called ‘Metanoia,’ which is a term that means transforming one’s heart.

The Youth Media Project is a program for young individuals between the ages of 16 and 30. The program helps establish community connections and supports participants to develop technical skills in film production including editing, working with audio, and learning the basics about creating films. Each participant is given the opportunity to express themselves creatively with a personal video about a subject important to them, as well as making a commissioned video for a work placement.

“The Youth Media Project explores what is possible in low-budget film-making,” says Brandon Myrbo, one of the participants.

“It’s been really nice to engage in a social project for media production, particularly since the pandemic,” adds fellow participant, Doran Humphreys. “Krista (Tupper) and the art gallery have done an amazing job at keeping everything running while also taking the necessary epidemiological precautions. I am so grateful to have had the experience of connecting with others in a creative fun space to help us all get through a difficult year. I think the films really reflect what we are all thinking about.”
