Ocean Wave's square dancing club.

For 70 years, people have been dancing up a storm in Courtenay.

If people were to walk by the St. John the Divine Church Hall in Courtenay, they'd see people inside having a lot of fun. The hall is often filled with laughter and music. Getting a glimpse inside, they'd see participants dancing in a square. They'd see the Ocean Waves Square Dance Club well into their 70th year in the Comox Valley.

Square Dancing is an exercise in laughing and listening, moving and smiling, delighting when all goes well and grinning when your square breaks down. It is a way of keeping your mind and body working as you play. It is something you can enjoy forever, no matter where you are. There are always square dance clubs who will welcome you to dance with them.

For those who want to give it a try, the club is offering workshops in September in the hall  at  579-5th St. Courtenay from 7 until 9 p.m. The workshops will be on Sept. 9 and Sept. 16.
