THE LAURIE TINKLER School of Dance presents Dance Explosion this Thursday and Friday evenings at the Sid Williams Theatre.

The stage at the Sid Williams Theatre will explode with dance this  Thursday and Friday evenings as the Laurie Tinkler School of Dance presents Dance Explosion 2011.

This year’s show is the 28th annual production for one of the most established dance studios in the city.

While the Laurie Tinkler School of Dance is well-known for excellence in Highland dancing, the spectrum of dance instruction offered at the school is much wider. Dance lessons at the school also include jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical and hip hop with students ranging from age three through adult.

As in previous years, Dance Explosion 2011 will feature a variety of numbers in these dance styles.

This year’s show has been choreographed primarily by senior instructors Laurie Tinkler, Laszlo Tamasik and Rachel Bood, with significant creative assistance from the rest of the faculty. Students will present what they have learned throughout the year in solo, duet, trio and group presentations.

The costumes for Dance Explosion 2011 were created for the most part by local talent. The costumes have been designed to accompany the creative choreography of the faculty.

The mood of the dances presents great variety — from the fantasy of swans and princesses, through romance, reflection, futuristic and pure energy. There are sure to be a number of dances that appeal to your taste.

Dance Explosion 2010 is approximately three hours in length including intermission. The show begins at 7 p.m. both nights.

Tickets for this annual recital are now on sale at the Sid Williams box office at the cost of $16 for adults, $11 for students, $11 and $3 for children.
