On Oct. 5, Echoes of Narcissus comes to the Merville Hall to blend their contemporary dance and genre defying music into an unique performance. The dance company Gruff Goat Dance is joined by live music by Blue Dirt Girl + Klame.
Gruff Goat Dance is a dance troupe based out of Pemberton B.C., and their performances are a celebration of feminine empowerment. The show draws on the myth of Narcissus and Echo, portrayed by dancers’ villainous alter egos.
BLue Dirt Girl + Kalme are an indie band based out of Courtenay and Vancouver, featuring vocalist Kathryn Sutherland, bassist Albert Klassen, and electronic producer Josh Klassen. The band will be playing an original score written for the performance.
“The heart and soul of any good collaboration is two juxtaposed styles working together to create something that neither of them could create on their own,” said Trish Blesham of Gruff Goat Dance.
The performance has grown out of a year’s worth of practice and honing across communities and disciplines.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $25 and available at Blue Heron Books in Comox, Long and Mcquade in Courtenay, and at the door.
