Anela & the Experimenters play The Little Red Church in Comox on Thursday

Jazz series organizer Rob Peterson is thrilled to announce Bates Beach Farm (owners Grace & Mike Obal) as the new major sponsor of the monthly Jazz series at The Little Red Church.

Accordingly, the series has been re-named the Bates Beach Farm Jazz Series. The Obals are local growers of fine produce on their 20-acre farm.

“Just like the Farmers’ Markets we regularly sell our product at, the Jazz Series at The Little Red Church also draws the community together in a very special way, and we look forward to supporting many great evenings of live music,” said  Grace Obal.

Anela and his band The Experimenters are the feature performers this Thursday. The popularity of Anela in the Valley is phenomenal. A native of Hawaii and a professional musician his entire life, Anela’s talent is extensive with beautiful vocals and fantastic skills on guitar, ukulele and lap steel. Anela’s repertoire will include a broad range of jazz standards, blues and “Anela” originals.

His band “The Experimenters” consists of a fine line-up of local talent that includes Rachel Fuller on alto sax and EWI, Ralph Barrat on keyboard and vocals, Roger Purdy on bass and Rob Peterson on drums.

The opening act tradition continues with a fabulous youth acoustic vocal trio. Sisters Daniella and Allison Saunders join their cousin Alanna Webster (ages 14, 17 and 15). The trio named Dani, Ali ‘n’ Alanna will amaze you with their vocal harmonies.

Organizer Rob Peterson extends a special thank-you to Mike and Grace Obal for their generous financial contribution to the Jazz Series.

Advance Tickets are $10 at Bop City and The Red Carpet Boutique in Comox. Tickets at the door $12.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Performance at 7:30.
