Once again, for lovers of all things country, on Sunday, Sept. 30, the Heritage Fall Fair is back at the Big Yellow Merville Hall.

From 1 to 5 p.m. we’ll be celebrating this land of plenty in the Comox Valley with a farmers’ market, food from the kitchen, a kids zone, refreshments, displays, antique machinery, and skilled local artisans.

We’ll have a terrific tug ‘o’ war, between Black Creek and Merville to determine which community wins the coveted Golden Gumboot Trophy and the bragging rights to the title of Best Gumboot Community of the Year.

So far, Merville has won twice while poor Black Creek has managed only one victory.

Will Merville manage to hold on to this honour?

All able-bodied citizens of the Comox Valley are invited to grab the end of the rope and pull for their town’s honour.

At the fair, you’ll be able to gawk at the freshly painted 103-year-old church and manse and envision what great rental spaces they will be once renovated this winter. Don’t forget that at next year’s Heritage Fall Fair, Merville and Black Creek will be celebrating the 100 Year Anniversary of the founding of the Soldier Settlement of Merville. What an event that will be! We have already made contact with the Royal Family and the Mayor of Merville, France. Plans are afoot to invite other dignitaries, to create historic displays and to doll up the hall and grounds fittingly. But for now…..

On Sunday at the fair, to keep your already high spirits even higher, there will be toe twitching, live music on site all day. As well, there will be old-fashioned contests such as sack races, three-legged races

and

egg-on-a-spoon races. With the new ring road and one-way exit at the far end of the field, there will be oodles of easy, safe parking on the fairgrounds. Lots of seats, too, for those who want to sit, relax and eat a tasty snack or meal.

There is still room to squeeze in another vendor table or two and you can pay right at the fair.
