March 1 sees the Comox Valley’s first “Women Who Inspire Conference and Concert” in support of the Comox Valley Transition Society.

The Women Who Inspire Conference and Concert brings over 10 local inspiring female speakers with topics ranging from health, art, empowerment, music and recovery. It is about women supporting women supporting women; creating connection, valuing the female resilience, and providing an incredible networking opportunity with some of the most inspiring women in the Comox Valley area.

This event is for women who are interested in self-improvement, personal health, creativity, finding their voice, and understanding how to harness the power within to change themselves and their life for the better. The inspiring speakers will take you on a journey of healing, fun, finding strength , and learning resiliency. The whole community and all genders are invited to come out in honour and support of these incredible women.

The conference speakers include Dr. Tracy Rogers, Jenn Forsland, Cathleen McMahon, Autumn Rock, Nina Usherwood, Liz Wooten, Dr. Toyin Kareem - a paraplegic who against all odds went on to get her PhD - Kelly Gough and Gayle Bates, to name a few.

This conference is a great way to be inspired and support the Transition Society.

The evening “Inspire” concert features some of the Valley’s outstanding female musicians, including:

• Valley favourites, “Voices Three”, featuring Juno award-winner Helen Austin, and award-winning songwriters Judy Wing and Sue Pyper accompanied by bassist Bruce Wing. “Voices Three” have have been performing charity concerts together for over 12 years, including sold out shows at the Sid Williams Theatre and 1st Tuesday fundraisers.

• The Jenn Forsland Band, featuring Rick Husband, Grahame Edwards and Rachel Cooper. Jenn is a well known for her jazz and pop performances both with her band and with local group Swing Set. Jenn is an award-winning choir director that has both a gorgeous voice and an entertaining, captivating presence on stage.

• Brodie Dawson, just back from Nashville after recording her new CD, was named ‘Vocalist of the Year’ at the 2014 Vancouver Island Music Awards. Her voice is rich and riveting, pure and powerful, and full of soul.

• Julie Matthews is classically trained and a multi-instrumentalist (piano, alto flute, ukulele and guitar). As part of various bands, she has opened for Spirit of The West and D.O.A. She will be performing some of her beautiful and haunting original songs as well as adding her musical flair to Voices Three.

The conference and concert is on Sunday, March 1 at the Forence Filberg Centre, Courtenay. Conference tickets are $60 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and concert tickets (7:30 p.m.) are $20 available from Benjamin Moore House of Colour, Blue Heron Books and the Little Village Store in Cumberland.
