Maureen Washington is well known to Comox Valley jazz fans. A gifted vocalist, she fills the room with not just her voice but also her charisma and engaging stories. Washington connects with the audience by sharing stories about her life experiences, challenges and joys.
Washington will be backed by three Vancouver Island jazz musicians: Karel Roessingh on piano, Joey Smith on bass and Damian Graham on drums.
Washington’s voice has been compared to jazz icons such as Etta James, Carmen McRae, Holly Cole and Jann Arden.
Her diverse career has made a lasting impact on the music industry, showcasing her talents as a singer-songwriter, vocal instructor, and performer.
Washington has been on the main stage at the Prince George International Folk Fest for years. She has also had the honour of sharing the stage with renowned artists, including Bruce Cockburn, Janis Ian, and Martyn Joseph. In 2014, she won the highly esteemed Black Canadian Award for Best Jazz and Soul Artist.
The show will be under the shelter at the Aurora Terrace in 40 Knots Winery. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at Blue Heron Books in Comox and House of Colour in Courtenay.
