All 18 members of the Georgia Strait Big Band are in Courtenay to perform Sunday, Feb. 11 at Filberg Centre Conference Hall Ballroom from 2-4 p.m.

“The afternoon will offer something for everyone with concert-style seating and a terrific dance floor to enjoy a wonderful two-set performance featuring some of your favourite songs assembled from the band’s 300-song repertoire,” said conductor Greg Bush.

The Georgia Strait Big Band is continuing the legacy of big band music in the Valley that dates back to the 1940s. For the past 16 years, the Georgia Strait Big Band has been professionally conducted by Bush, professor of jazz studies in Nanaimo. Band personnel include musicians ranging in age from 16 to 80.

This event is a fundraiser for the non-profit Evergreen Club, which offers social and recreational programs for adults 55 plus. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Filberg Centre (250-338-1000) or at the door.
