Hornby songwriter back at Zocalo

BEE WOLF RAY performs this Saturday at Zocalo Café.

Hornby Island singer/songwriter Bee Wolf Ray is back at the Zocalo Café on June 9 at 7 p.m.

Bee will be ably accompanied on harmonies and percussion by Peter Cloud Panjoyah, who is attracting buzz as co-lead singer of the Jilli Martini Band.

Bee will offer a mix of original songs and eclectic covers. Her

songwriting is accomplished, lyrical and deep with recurring themes of earthy spirituality, love’s many forms, the quest for identity and the depths of the human condition, deep topics leavened by her clever, quirky humour.

Bee is a regular at the Comox Valley Songwriter’s Circle and the

Sunday jams at the Backstreet Pub, as well as playing occasional shows in town and elsewhere.

“Sweet with a gutsy edge,” says well-known local songwriter Helen

Austin, founder of the Comox Valley Songwriter Circle. Bee’s music is described as having a unique raw, sweet sound with a soft edge of pleasurable intimacy, with haunting, inspiring and often-stirring ideas and images.

Her voice has been compared to such diverse artists as Bjork, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell and Ricki Lee Jones. She is passionate about the songwriting process and about music as a force for transformation and evolution of consciousness.

Inventive, sensitive harmonies and percussion merge seamlessly with her voice and lyrics.
