Indulge in musical fusion at Elk's Club

Fusion-groove project Fractal performs at the Elk’s Club this Thursday at 7:30.

Indulge yourself in the alchemy of sound that binds fearless energy with pure fun.

Fusion-groove project Fractal performs at the Elk’s Club this Thursday at 7:30. These locally based groove junkies effortlessly blend funk, rock and free-jazz with Afro and Indian rhythms.

Fractal features jazzlion Roger Baird on drums, whose improvisational music career began in New York City back in 1972. Tony Morrison shreds and soars on a variety of saxophones and flute, while Britt Bowman grooves on the bass. Straight out of Mexico, Oscar Robles Diaz plays guitar and Chapman Stick, and composes much of the group’s all-original material.

“Everyone brings something different to this group,” says Robles Diaz, “and when the four of us get together — no matter how long it has been — something weird and special always happens.

"One of us throws down an idea and everyone dives at it, ripping it apart like a pack of wild wolves. It is an exciting, beautifully creative process. It happens live, so many of our songs reborn in the fire every time we play them.”

Fractal’s soundscapes are described as playful, colourful journeys over diverse and relentlessly groovy terrains. So, whether you want to chill to the bone, or dance like a dervish, this show will get you in the mood.
