Artist and lecturer Kelly Richardson will appear on Nov. 22 as the final speaker in the fall 2018 Artist Talk Series.

“We’ve hosted some phenomenal talent throughout this Artist Talk season,” said series co-ordinator and fine art and design department chair Sara Vipond. “To conclude with the likes of Kelly Richardson is true to form for this event. We’re very fortunate to have her join us.”

Richardson’s work has been widely acclaimed within North America, Asia and Europe, with recent one-person exhibitions at galleries and contemporary arts spaces like CAG Vancouver, VOID Derry, Vienna’s Natural History Museum and Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.

Other artistic milestones include features at the Beijing, Busan, Gwangju and Montréal biennial celebrations and major moving image exhibitions, including The Cinema Effect: Illusion, Reality and the Moving Image at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Her video installations have been included in the Toronto International Film Festival as part of Future Projections (2012) and in the Sundance Film Festival in New Frontier (2009 and 2011). In 2009, she was honoured as the featured artist at the Americans for the Arts National Arts Awards.

Originally from Burlington, Ont., she spent most of the past 15 years living in northeast England, where she lectured in fine arts at Newcastle University. She recently moved back to Canada and is now an associate professor in visual arts at UVic.

Richardson speaks from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Stan Hagen Theatre on the Comox Valley campus. Admission is free and everyone is invited.
