For the past 15 years, Jewish-Canadian accordion player, singer-songwriter, and novelist Geoff Berner has travelled the world, packing venues in places like Berlin, London, Oslo, Zurich, Seattle, Toronto, Edmonton and his home city of Vancouver.

Berner is returning to Cumberland on Saturday, June 23, for an intimate evening performance at the Cumberland Cultural Centre as a part of Goodwin 2018 and Miners Memorial Weekend.

As a musician, Berner is mainly known as a practitioner of the “klezmer-punk” style, which combines the traditional folk music of Eastern European Jews with punk’s aggressive energy and disdain for slick perfection.

His latest album, Canadiana Grotesquica, is a brief departure. Berner describes it as a “country-tinged singer-songwriter affair.” Last year, Canadiana Grotesquica hit the number one spot on Canada’s folk/roots/blues radio charts.

Tickets for the show are $20, and can be purchased online at minersmemorial.ca.
