Laughs, tears and secrets coming to the Sid Williams Theatre

Fall is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the crispness of a new day and reminisce about summer past times. If golfing was part of your recreation, then you will definitely enjoy Courtenay Little Theatre’s The Ladies Foursome.

Fall is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the crispness of a new day and reminisce about summer past times. If golfing was part of your recreation, then you will definitely enjoy Courtenay Little Theatre’s The Ladies Foursome.

From Oct. 4 to 13, Courtenay Little Theatre (CLT) will be staging the show at the Sid Williams Theatre. This funny, poignant Norm Foster play, directed by Sharon Pridham, is the perfect play to make you laugh about your memories of missed tees, sand traps and goofy golf shots.

The Ladies Foursome is just what you’d expect it to be – four women golfing together. But one of them has sadly unexpectedly died, and a friend of the deceased is asked to join the three close friends for a golf game in her memory.

Men play golf to challenge themselves and showcase their prowess with a club. Many women play for the same reasons, but some women play golf as an excuse to get together and talk; it’s an evening’s entertainment of friends sharing laughter, tears, surprises and secrets.

The Ladies Foursome has four strong female characters. Margo, played by Ruthie Tilston, inherited her father’s construction company and is a successful businesswoman. Tate, played by Lynn Hodge, is a stay at home Mom married to a surgeon. Debbie Haynes has the role of Connie, a well-known television news anchor. Tracey Hill has the role of the replacement golfer Dory, who changes the dynamics in this longtime friendship.

Tickets for The Ladies Foursome are available at the Sid Williams Theatre box office on Cliffe Ave, phone 250-338-2430 or online at www.sidwilliamstheatre.com. Five evening shows October 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30 pm, priced at $28 (all taxes and surcharges included) and one matinee only on Saturday, October 6, 2:00 pm ($26).

Little theatre, big move

CLT rehearsals are going well despite the hubbub of activity happening right now. This 250-member club is busily renovating a new warehouse space, packing up 60 years of collected costumes and props, and moving in two directions on Sept. 30.

While The Ladies Foursome cast and crew move into the Sid Theatre for an Oct. 4 opening night, everyone else will be loading all the trucks and cars available to begin CLT’s new life at Units A-B 2683 Moray Avenue. (For more information to learn about ways to help this community organization pay for costly renovations, visit www.courtenaylittletheatre.com)

Amidst this exciting turmoil, CLT will continue to entertain the valley with great theatrical productions. The Ladies Foursome is no exception and is just the first of the three show season (A Christmas Carol runs Dec. 22 to 31 and Hedda Gabler runs April 5 to 13, 2019).
