On Monday, March 21, cellist Ariel Barnes joins pianist Sarah Hagen for a morning of chamber music at the Sid.

Widely regarded as one of Canada’s finest cellists, Barnes is currently principal cello of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and a member of Trio Accord, the Turning Point Ensemble and the National Broadcast Orchestra.

Hagen is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician, performing in concerts across Canada as well as in the United States, France, Italy, Germany and Sweden.

The two musicians have performed together in various ensembles and were eager to explore a program together. For Mattina Musica, they have selected two powerful works by Beethoven and Rachmaninoff in which the cello and piano seem melded together into one instrument.

The concert, part of a new classical music series, begins at 10:30 a.m. and all patrons are warmly invited to mingle with the musicians over a cup of tea or coffee in the Sid lobby at 10 a.m.

Tickets are $15. For more information on this concert, and on the entire Mattina Musica series, visit www.sidwilliamstheatre.com or call 250-338-2430.
