Gordon Ross has photographed athletes, dancers, yogis,

adventurers, musicians, warriors, artists, families and workers as they make their way in the world.

He loves to explore the paradox that we are all different and the

same with each breath we take.

Ross is exhibiting 10 images as part of the Mayworks – Festival of Working People and the Arts. The exhibit runs weekends

throughout May at his studio in the Tin Town are of Courtenay. Painters Martha Jablonski-Jones and Bonnie Laird will also be taking part.

Ross is a Courtenay-based photographer specializing in editorial, travel, adventure sports, fine art portraiture and wedding photojournalism.

For over 25 years, Gordon has been photographing life in an attempt to catch the ephemeral truths that are expressed in daily life. One of his principal genres is candid and formal portraiture shot out in the field and in the studio. His approach is to create a space where people feel free, safe and secure.

The Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts celebrates the culture and history of work and workers through the arts. Built on the basis that artists and workers share a common struggle for decent wages, healthy working conditions and a living culture, Mayworks was founded in 1986. Mayworks Vancouver Island is in its seventh year, growing in scope and popularity as it ages.
