Landmark Cinemas Canada announced it is converting its Rialto Theatre in Courtenay (Driftwood Mall, 2655 Cliffe Ave.) to premium powered recliner seating in all four of the theatre’s auditoriums.

Construction started Friday, Oct. 19, and is scheduled for completion the week of Nov. 19.

The Rialto remains open during the renovation period, and the theatre’s staff look forward to introducing their guests to this new premium movie-going experience beginning with the scheduled opening of the theatre’s initial two recliner auditoriums the week of Nov. 5.

Additional renovations to the theatre’s lobby and concession amenities will be completed in January, 2019, complement the enhanced movie-going experience.

The introduction of premium recliner seating will reduce the overall theatre capacity - a necessity in order to provide “a significant increase in personal space and a more relaxing, disruption-free movie-going experience,” read a press release from Landmark Cinemas Canada.

Free reserved seating will also be part of the theatre’s premium offering, all for an adult general price of $11.99. Reserved seating tickets may be purchased at landmarkcinemas.com

“Experiencing a movie in recliner seating is a gamechanger,” said Bill Walker, CEO Landmark Cinemas Canada. “We are confident that movie lovers throughout Courtenay, and its surrounding regions, will embrace this new premium movie-going experience, providing a reason to enjoy the movies more often.”
