You may know Naomi Shore as one half of the award-winning folk/roots duo Twin Peaks.

Hailing from northern British Columbia and having toured Canada and Australia relentlessly over the last seven years, Naomi is branching out with her first solo recording, called Piece by Piece.

With a backing band made up of Jodie Ponto and Noah Walker (a.k.a. Kitty & the Rooster) and captured in their delicate glory by Corwin Fox, this album is bold in its fearless vulnerability. Naomi’s trademark sass is still clear and present along with her silky voice, but there is an honesty and depth to the way these songs are written and sung that puts the album into the realm of classic.

This performance at Studio Live is something of a homecoming for the album because it was created in Cumberland and Naomi will have Kitty & the Rooster as well as Corwin Fox as her backup band to bring these songs to life.

If you don’t know Corwin Fox or his music yet, it is only a matter of time. This show would be the ideal time to make the acquaintance of both because Corwin will be playing a solo opening set as well as backing up Naomi. There is a good chance Corwin will sing and frail on his banjo, songs that are funny, touching, heartfelt… probably all at once. There is an equally good chance that Corwin will sit there with a banjo on his knee and forget to play it at all, instead getting lost in telling engaging stories about local characters or growing up with three violent younger brothers. It will likely be a mix of both, but you never really know. All you can really be sure of is a wonderful night of songs and laughter by some of BC’s finest original music performers.

The March 23 performance starts at 8 p.m. with doors open at 7:30 at Studio Live, 2679 Beaufort Ave. at First Avenue, Cumberland.

Advance tickets, $20, available at Bop City Records, Courtenay, Rider’s Pizza, Cumberland and by e-transfer to studiolivestudio@gmail.com. At the door: $25.
