The Comox Valley Song Circle was established by local performer Helen Austin some six years ago to provide a place where songwriters could gather to support, share and critique their original music.

With the help of the Comox Valley Arts Society, songwriters have met on Wednesday nights at the Muir Gallery for the past five years.

Now it’s time to move forward with the Song Circle Showcase.

This next step is for the members of the Song Circle to showcase their music in front of live audiences.

“This will be a fabulous opportunity for the public to hear and appreciate the incredibly talented songwriters that live here among us,” the group says in a news release.

“We would like to thank Catherine Bell of Zocalo’s, and Stephanie Backhouse of the Union Street Grill and Grotto, for being the first to offer their enthusiastic support of this showcase.

“Many members of the Comox Valley Song Circle have written, sung and performed their way through its doors of opportunity. This would never have happened if it weren’t for the vision and dedication of our very own Helen Austin.”

The Zocalo Café and the Grotto are not only providing a venue for the arts, but contributing a big plus for pride and involvement in our community, add the songwriters.
