Strathcona Symphony Orchestra’s Courtenay concerts will take the audience on a journey

Strathcona Symphony Orchestra’s musical director and conductor, Helena Jung, wanted to take audiences on a melodic global trip since travelling during COVID has been so difficult.

The SSO’s December performance, titled “Journey around the World,” will be held at the Native Sons Hall, 360 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay. Concert-goers will get to enjoy well known classical selections ranging from Chopin’s Polonaise to Verdi’s Introduction and Drinking Song from La Traviata, Leroy Anderson’s Irish Suite, as well as contemporary selections, including La Bamba and American Music Awards K-Pop stars, BTS and their hit song, Dynamite.

Members from the North Island Choral Society will also join the SSO to sing some well-loved carol favourites and modern holiday selections arranged by John Rutter.

Concert dates are Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30) and Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1:30 p.m.) Tickets can be purchased online via the SSO’s website, www.strathconasymphony.ca

Prices are $25 for adults and $15 for children (12 and under). Provincial COVID protocols are in effect for all SSO concerts.
