Comox United Church will present the film The Danish Girl on Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.
Nominated for four Academy Awards, this film is set in the affluent arts culture of 1920s Europe. A married couple (Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander), both achieve success as painters, but the man begins to realize that he is more comfortable living as a woman. Doctors can offer no help, other than diagnoses of mental illness or perversion. Supported by the unconditional love of his wife, the man finally finds a doctor who understands, and is willing to attempt a transgender procedure.
Inspired by a true story of two Danish artists, this film by director Tom Hooper explores the multiple meanings of love within a relationship.
The showing will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at Comox United Church, 250 Beach Dr. in Comox. Admission is by donation.
