With a fresh CD in hand and fresh smiles on their faces, the Clover Point Drifters are heading out for a short Island tour.
Bluegrass fans are familiar with these veterans of the B.C. scene, who have spent more than a decade together entertaining and jamming at concerts and festivals all over the province.
The music is traditional bluegrass in the style of Flatt and Scruggs, the Stanley Brothers, or Reno and Smiley — lots of close duet and trio vocal harmonies mixed with energetic instrumental solos. These boys are the real thing. Their shows are warm and friendly, keeping the rhythm going while they weave around a single microphone.
The new CD, their second recording and the first in five years, shows their dedication to the craft, and it has been very well received. Produced and engineered with Adrian Dolan (The Bills), it is a sparkling addition to the traditional bluegrass catalogue.
They don’t play many small-venue shows, so catch them while you can this Friday night at Joe’s Garage in Courtenay.
The Joe’s Garage kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 8.
