The Comox Valley Youth Music Centre had added a week of workshops geared towards adults.
The seminars will be presented by classical pianist Sarah Hagen and will include five afternoons of examining musicianship through repertoire and discussion. Although addressed from a pianist’s point of view, the topics are appropriate for students of all instruments and for those who want to understand classical music on a deeper level.
Classes will run July 9 to 13 from 1:30 to 3:30 daily. Piano students of all ages and levels will also have an opportunity to have private lessons with Hagen during the week of workshops. Lessons are available each morning and some evenings.
Monday — Good practising: examining your daily rituals at the piano;
Tuesday — Good listening: enhancing your concert experience;
Wednesday — Good performing: learning to make the most of those jitters;
Thursday — Good phrasing: small and large, each musical idea matters;
Friday — Good writing: diving into improvisation and composition.
Each two-hour seminar is $40 or $170 for all five. Hour lessons are $60 with a package rate of $250 for two lessons and the week of seminars.
