Many young dancers spend endless hours each week studying the art form but knowing little about the history or the people behind many of the names they hear in passing. Rarely do they get the opportunity to not only meet one of the legends, but to take class with them.

This fall, Dancestreams is excited to announce the first of a series of four Canadian Dance Legends master classes that will take place over the next two seasons, thanks to the generous support of the BC Arts Council.

The incomparable Kenny Pearl of Toronto will teach two classes only on Oct. 14t at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. Kenny Pearl began training in dance in Toronto at eighteen with David Earle and Patricia Beatty, and at the National Ballet School. He has taught often in New York at the schools of the Graham and Ailey companies, and at the Juilliard School of Music.

Master classes in modern dance are $25 each and are open to all Island dancers age 13-plus. The first 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is for age 13 amd up; the second 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. is for age 16-plus with experience. Registration is limited and forms can be downloaded from the website dancestreams.ca/events.
