The two Canadian men who died in a car crash in the Australian state of Victoria Sunday were from Comox.

Scott Goebel and Jesse Munroe, both 21, were in the country on work visas and believed to be working at a winery.

Both young men had graduated from Highland Secondary School just a few years ago.

Victoria Police in Australia noted the vehicle was travelling just before 12:30 a.m. when it left the road, rolled and landed in trees.

All five male occupants are believed to be overseas, and all were working in the country.

In addition to Goebel and Munro, the driver, a German, was also killed on scene; one passenger was airlifted to hospital in critical condition and another was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to Australian media, acting assistant commissioner Tim Hansen said police believe the men may have been drinking at a nearby hotel before the crash.

“We’re considering factors of speed, alcohol and vehicle safety,” he said.
