Comox Valley Transition Society announced that they have received a generous donation of $200,000 from philanthropist Helga.
The funds will be applied to both the Girls Group initiative and the much needed improvements to the Amethyst House facility.
“This generous support ensures that the CV Transition Society will continue to provide vital services critical to those in our community,” said Executive Director Heather Ney.
Amethyst House is a 13 bed residential supportive recovery program for self identified women and other gender diverse people. It provides a 90-day structured early recovery education and life skills program.
The CVTS Girls Group helps women aged 12 to 21 to explore self-image, mental health, self-care, communication, healthy relationships through guided discussion and creative activities run by adult and peer leaders.
Helga has also pledged to match funds raised during the CVTS fall fundraising event, Art in The Vines, up to $50,000.
“These significant contributions provide much welcome support for the CVTS ongoing initiatives as the need for our services continue to grow in the Comox Valley,” said Ney.
Helga has made numerous donations to non-profits within the Comox Valley in memory of her late husband, Hans. After his death, Helga found strength and support from the community and has chosen to create a lasting legacy of giving to her newly adopted community.
