The Comox Valley Regional District will be closing Glacier View Drive and Aitken Street where they meet Comox Avenue starting on Tuesday, May 20.
For the next phase in the sewer conveyance project, the regional district will be closing access to those streets, but re-starting two-way traffic from Manor Drive in Comox.
"The closures are required to facilitate Town of Comox infrastructure upgrades in preparation for the construction of the new roundabout at the intersection of Glacier View Drive and Comox Avenue," a release from the regional district says. "This work, initially scheduled for later this year, has been moved forward, as progress on the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project continues to exceed initial time estimates."
People should anticipate the return of one-way, westbound traffic on Comox Avenue as work to replace a storm water pipe on the north side of the street is underway. At this time, Aitken Street will be open as the detour route. Glacier View Drive is estimated to remain closed until September.
A detour for this work will be from McDonald Road to Guthrie Road, and then to Anderton Road in Comox.
"Construction is subject to suitable weather conditions or other possible construction-related delays. We apologize if timelines shift," the release says.
