The City of Nanaimo’s new garbage trucks could become fearsome garbage-eating machines.

The municipality announced that Trash-O-Saurus Rex, Crushasaurus Rex and eight other entries have been shortlisted in a contest to name two new automated garbage trucks.

About 1,500 submission were received and city staff came up with the shortlists of five potential names for each truck.

The possible names for Truck 1 are Arm-a-gettin’, Ultra Garbatron, Trash-O-Saurus Rex, Nom Nom and Waste Warrior and the possibilities for Truck 2 are Harbour City Crusher, Mommy, Sanitary Claws, Professor Trashy and Crushasaurus Rex.

Honourable mentions were Truck Norris, Optimus Grime, Obi One Can Only and Art Garbagefunkle.

“This is a fun contest aimed at engaging residents in the new automated collection program, Sort Toss Roll, coming to Nanaimo in fall 2017 and summer 2018,” said Charlotte Davis, city manager of sanitation, recycling and public works, in a press release. “I was pleased with the number of entries we received and am excited to see which two names will win.”
