The Raiders football club focuses on youth development, offering all kids access to the sport. Westview Ford's sponsorship helps remove financial barriers, making participation possible for everyone.

This year, Westview Ford has proudly partnered with the Comox Valley Raiders youth football club as the official jersey sponsor for the Junior Bantam team.

As a grassroots football club, the Raiders are dedicated to fostering youth development and providing opportunities for kids of all backgrounds to participate in the sport, regardless of financial barriers. The sponsorship from Westview Ford plays a crucial role in making this possible.

The Raiders football program has long been a home for young athletes in the Comox Valley, offering players the chance to learn valuable life skills through teamwork, perseverance and discipline.

"We are a community club that welcomes everyone regardless of whether or not they can afford to play football and cheer," says Raiders president Joanne Lewis, noting this inclusivity is made possible through partnerships with local businesses like Westview Ford.

In addition to sponsoring the junior bantam team’s jerseys, Westview Ford has been actively involved in the Raiders' fundraising efforts. Earlier this year, they hosted a car wash at the dealership, and during the Courtney Canada Day Parade, the dealership provided a truck to represent the team. These initiatives not only help raise funds but also strengthen the bond between the club and the local community.

"We’ve been really lucky the last couple of years with many local businesses stepping up to support us. Their funding and contributions help us be able to maintain all of the things we’re doing," Lewis says.

Alongside the dealership's backing, numerous local organizations have also stepped up to show their support for the program.

Keeping football affordable

For many families, the cost of sports can prevent a child from getting the opportunity to play. To overcome the financial burden, the Raiders have worked hard to keep participation fees low. The club provides helmets, shoulder pads, football pants and jerseys to players on loan at no extra charge.

"The club purchases all equipment and provides it on loan to all players for the season. There are no additional costs to families, only the program registration fees." Lewis explained. This approach helps alleviate the financial burden on families while ensuring players have the necessary gear to compete safely.

Additionally, Westview Ford’s fundraising support helps fund travel expenses for games off Vancouver Island, where older teams compete against mainland clubs. "Fundraising is essential to maintaining these programs, so the support of local businesses is really important for ensuring our fundraising efforts are successful.”

As the fall season is now well underway, the Raiders encourage the community to come out and support the Junior Bantam team. Whether it’s under the Friday night lights or on a sunny Saturday afternoon, local games provide a chance to see the excitement and dedication of these young athletes up close.

With Westview Ford’s continued support, the Raiders are poised for another successful season, helping shape the next generation of football players in the Comox Valley.
