19 Wing Comox learning sustainability

This year, 19 Wing Comox will take part in the Canadian Forces Sustainable Communities competition, a division of the Communities in Bloom program.

This year, 19 Wing Comox will take part in the Canadian Forces Sustainable Communities competition, a division of the Communities in Bloom program. The program has been running nationally for 17 years, and in the Canadian Forces since 2006.The goal is to engage everyone at 19 Wing, including all Wing Units, Lodger Units, Agencies and the Wing as a whole.The Communities in Bloom (CiB) program is committed to “fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program.” CiB judges will visit 19 Wing Aug. 9 and 10 and evaluate our performance in the following: • Tidiness (150 possible points)• Environmental Action (150 possible points)• Heritage Conservation (150 possible points)• Urban Forestry (175 possible points)• Landscape, including floral displays (215 possible points)• Turf and Sports Fields (150 possible points)The total possible marks are 990.The principle of community involvement is so fundamental to the program that it is evaluated in each of the sections of evaluation.This involves the following Community (Base) sectors, contributing to various aspects of community participation, involvement, improvement, etc. —throughout the entire community (primarily the Base and RHU areas and also the surrounding area and communities).— 19 Wing Comox
