B.C. Conservatives officially elected John Cummins as their new leader Saturday in Surrey.
“A new era in B.C. politics begins today,” said Cummins. “I am honoured to be elected leader of the new BC Conservatives.
"Together, we will build a real choice for the voters of this province. Instead of revolving door Liberal and NDP governments, where all that is replaced is a set of insiders getting rich, B.C. need a real choice. We are that choice.”
When Cummins announced his bid for leadership of the new BC Conservatives, he promised to change electoral law to ban financial contributions from unions and corporations to political parties.
Cummins’ rolled out his first policy as leader Saturday – a promise to scrap the carbon tax.
“When gas prices are high we pay more for food, clothing...pretty much everything,” said Cummins, who visited the Comox Valley recently to promote his candidacy. "The largest component of the price of gas is taxes. In B.C we have a special tax, one that no one else in North America has, a carbon tax.”
