Annual lavender farm days offering expanded hours at Comox’s Shamrock Farm

“The lavender fields are uplifting and really calming”

Twenty-eight years after purchasing their farm on Anderton Road in Comox, Shannon and Mike Farrell are keeping the same perspective nearly three decades later: to keep an open door for anyone who wants to experience a working farm.

The Farrells own Shamrock Farm, a 20-acre diversified family-operated farm that grows a range of vegetables and flowers. They are also well-known in the Valley for their annual Lavender Open Farm Days, where anyone can visit the farm to walk the lavender fields, visit their barn or purchase a variety of treats, including veggies, flowers, lavender soap, products and even lavender gelato.

“A lot of families may not have the funds to do things (this summer) and they want to experience a farm; we want to open the door for everyone,” explained Shannon.

From July 19 to 25, the Farrells are expanding their hours for their lavender farm days, opening their farm to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Shannon said the goal is to provide a relaxed, outdoor atmosphere for people to explore.

“The lavender fields are uplifting and really calming. Last year, with COVID-19, we had to have people register before they came in, so with people getting out, it will be nice to have a little bit of normal come back.”

All products are either grown or made by the Farrells on the farm. There will be “tons of veggies” for purchase, added Shannon, along with a flower bar where visitors can build their own bouquet and their annual lavender wall, where she encourages visitors to take photos.

Bouquets of lavender will also be available for purchase, along with u-cut options.

There is no admission to visit Shamrock Farm (2276 Anderton Road) during the open farm days, and parking is only available on-site (no road parking). Dogs (except service dogs) are not allowed on the farm, and purchases are available with debit, credit card or cash.
