Bid approved for Vanier turf field job

The sports centre commission has approved a low bid of $562,551 from Leighton Contracting of Courtenay to convert Vanier's field to turf

The sports centre commission has approved a low bid of $562,551 from Leighton Contracting of Courtenay to convert the all-weather pitch at Vanier Secondary into a synthetic turf field.

The commission has also approved a $435,000 contract award for turf supply and installation to low bidder Astroturf West Distributors of Vancouver. The work includes the installation of a shock/drainage pad to extend the life of the field and to provide a safer playing area.

Construction is set to commence late-spring.

The project, which will appear before the CVRD board for final approval this month, is funded by the regional district, City of Courtenay and the Comox Valley United Soccer Club. School District 71 has provided the land.

The Vanier school grounds also contain a new running track. Line painting was expected to be completed on the weekend.
