Bike thefts up, car thefts down

Assaults, auto thefts and thefts from vehicles have declined over the course of a year in Courtenay, according to police statistics. Data was compared from April 1 to Sept. 30 in 2015 and 2016.

Though the number of auto thefts dropped from 26 to 20, Comox Valley RCMP Insp. Tim Walton says that number is still too high. It takes five minutes to file a report.

Bike thefts jumped from 43 last year to 67 this year. Business break and enters increased from seven to 12 but residential break and enters dropped from 31 to 23.
