The public is encouraged to attend the Ceremony of the Flags celebration Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Village Park in Cumberland.
The historic event features more than 230 teenage sea cadets from HMCS Quadra.
The ceremony is a distinctly Canadian tradition, created and performed by the Royal Canadian Navy in 1967 to celebrate Canada’s centennial.
A showcase of military precision, pageantry and discipline, the performance features a 70-member guard, a 40-member marching band, and 60 cadets manning the flag party and naval field guns.
The event is free. It begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at 9 p.m.
Free ice cream will be served.
