Charges laid in violent home invasion in Royston

Following a lengthy police investigation, charges have been laid against two men for a violent home invasion which occurred last September in Royston.

Following a lengthy police investigation, charges have been laid against two men for a violent home invasion which occurred last September in Royston.Michael Grant Pritchard, 39, and Darren Jason Puglas, 33, each face seven counts related to the incident. Charges include break and enter, robbery, assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement, wearing a disguise and other firearm offences.On Sept. 15, 2010 around 3 a.m., three masked me broke into a residence on Kentwood Road. The three intruders duct taped the 49-year-old occupant and confined his 11-year-old daughter in her room while they beat the man with weapons while demanding money.The intruders stole cash and firearms from the victim. The perpetrators also demanded the man's bank card and personal identification number before fleeing.Police believe the attackers targeted the occupants based on false information. The unsuspecting residents were not involved in any high-risk behaviour commonly associated with home invasion situations. Both suspects are in custody and are well known to the Comox Valley RCMP.The RCMP National Forensic Services Laboratory and National DNA Data Bank were instrumental in providing sufficient evidence to charge both men.The investigation is ongoing and police hope to make further arrests upon completion of subsequent forensic evidence testing.— Comox Valley RCMP
