The Pearl Ellis Art Gallery is featuring a solo exhibition by Comox artist Svea Swanson from Sept. 18 to Oct. 6.
Swanson began painting after a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in 2000. She found the flow of oil paint onto canvas matched her own rhythm and helped to ease the constant pain she was experiencing.
The painting eventually led to the creation of a children’s book, I Can Count. So Can You. We are Silly Eggaroos. Some of these images will be included in the exhibition.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. Copies of her book will be available for sale along with the original art. There will also be a draw for a signed copy of the book as well as a framed print. Children are welcome.
The Pearl Ellis Gallery is located at 1729 Comox Avenue in Comox. Open Tuesday-Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sunday/Monday. Free admission.
