Recent rain has allowed the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to lift a ban on chum fishing in the Puntledge River.
Until Nov. 30, you can catch a maximum of two chum per day in the river, which had experienced low water levels due to a recent drought.
The fishing opportunity also applies in the Courtenay River "downstream from a boundary marker located 75 metres downstream of the Puntledge River Hatchery counting fence." The minimum size of fish caught is 30 centimetres.
Chinook fishing in the Puntledge and Courtenay rivers remains banned, as is "unmarked and marked adipose fin clipped coho.
Fishing in the Puntledge between signs 100 metres upstream and downstream of the confluence with Morrison Creek and 75 metres downstream of the hatchery fence is closed to fishing, the DFO adds.
