The Comox “Keys By The Sea’ initiative was spearheaded by Comox BIA President, Richard DeLuca, BIA board member Dr. Bill Toews and Town of Comox Councillors Maureen Swift and Marg Grant.

“We all saw this idea as an opportunity to bring vibrancy to the Town and have some fun too,” said DeLuca.

Dr. Bill Toews of Beaufort Family Dental donated one of the pianos and commissioned artist Kelly Everill to create a stunning motif featuring – you guessed it – the Tooth Fairy. Kelly is a world-taught Comox Valley artist who has made it her mission to transform spaces through creative arts.

Her diverse styles and mediums range from large and small-scale interior and exterior commercial and residential murals – and now at least one piano.

The Beaufort Family Dental’s “Tooth Fairy” will be located at the Comox Town Circle.

The piano donated by Audrey and Ray Craig has been in her family for generations. It was a gift to her mother Audrey Anderton (nee Mellado) on her sixteenth birthday.

“Our piano has had awonderful life,” said Craig, “and we’re so glad it will live out its days giving the folks at Marina Park some musical pleasure!

Artist Kelly Maguire from Kelly Cat and Kay Bird Art Studio in Comox will be painting this piano on location over the next several days at the new Sails Buildings in Marina Park. Kelly and a group of Comox kids will be creating a “above and below the water line” theme and she invites folks to drop by and follow their progress.

The third piano is located in Filberg Park. Artist David Thrasher, a professional animator andstoryboard artist who worked for Disney, Nickelodeon, Hanna-Barbera and many others in his career is painting this piano. The inspiration for this motif comes from the variety of trees Robert and Florence Filberg imported and planted on the property.

The gardens were established during the 1930s and the current park is filled with over 120 varieties.

If you’ve ever moved a piano – you know it’s no easy task, so we called on the professionals at Comox Moving and Storage who donated their services in support of Comox “Keys By The Sea”.

The Comox “Keys By The Sea” pianos will be available for all to enjoy for the balance of the summer.
