A proposed non-medical cannabis store is onto the next step in its application for a retail location on Church Street in Comox.

Sheila Rivers of Coast Range Cannabis Ltd. has applied to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for a retail store licence at 221C Church Street.

The LCRB has referred to the Town of Comox for comment on the application. The LCRB cannot issue a licence unless the local government provides a referral response that recommends the licence be issued.

Should council decide to respond to the referral, council must comment on the location of the proposed store; council’s views on the general impact on the community if the application is approved; the views of residents and a description of how the resident’s views were gathered and council’s recommendations to whether the application should be approved or rejected and the reasons upon which the recommendation is based.

Council unanimously approved at Wednesday’s council meeting that staff be directed to gather the views of town residents.

A notice of request for written public comment will be placed in two consecutive issues of the Comox Valley Record along with a mail-out or hand delivery of a notice of request for written public comment to property owners and tenants within 75 metres of the subject property.

The proposed hours of operation of Coast Range Cannabis are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Sunday.

Referrals have been sent to staff, BC Assessment and the Comox Valley RCMP.

A cannabis retail store licence cannot be issued unless the LCRB receives a positive recommendation from the local government.
