On May 10, the Comox Valley celebrated its 2018 Local Heroes, and within those heroes were several members of the Comox Valley RCMP detachment.

Constables Dadaos, Thorson and Malyon were awarded the Courage and Bravery award for their actions on Oct. 9, 2017. On that day, a woman entered the Puntledge River and was holding onto a branch behind a local business when she was swept down the river. Dadaos, Thorson and Malyon worked together and got the woman out of the water so that she could be taken to hospital for treatment.

Comox Valley RCMP auxiliary constable Von Kampen was nominated for the Community Volunteer award. Von Kampen volunteers much of her free time with the RCMP and Citizens on Patrol, making a positive contribution to the community.

The Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services volunteers were nominated for the Unsung Hero award. Victim Services is based in the Comox Valley RCMP detachment, and is supported by trained volunteers from the community. They work directly with police to provide emotional support, information and referrals to victims of crime – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Comox Valley RCMP is proud to work with all of these heroes.
