Comox Valley Regional district adopts parks and greenways plan

The regional district board has adopted a rural parks and greenways strategic plan that begins the implementation of a vision that will shape the future of Comox Valley parks over the next 20 years.

The regional district board has adopted a rural parks and greenways strategic plan that begins the implementation of a vision that will shape the future of Comox Valley parks over the next 20 years. The plan outlines acquisition priority areas, funding strategies, partnerships, and management and stewardship strategies. The board's stamp of approval marks "an exciting step toward a sustainable parks system that will provide a variety of opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with and appreciate our natural environment,” parks manager Michael Nihls said. “The plan is a reflection of community values and the result of an intensive public engagement and planning process by regional district staff with the support of a citizens’ advisory group.” A levy will help purchase pieces of land in each of the electoral areas. The rate will be $5 per $100,000 of assessed property value.  The plan is available at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/parksplan.
