Comox Valley Regional District and CUPE reach four-year agreement

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and CUPE 556, the union local representing about 70 employees, have agreed on a new, four-year collective agreement.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and CUPE 556, the union local representing about 70 employees, have agreed on a new, four-year collective agreement.

The agreement, which will cover the period from Jan. 1, 2011 to Dec. 31, 2014, provides for a nine per cent increase over the four years, to be applied in percentage increments of two, two, three and two.

The agreement also provides for a 50 cent per hour wage adjustment in each of the first three years for water and wastewater technicians, to bring that group more in line with those holding the same classifications in other areas.

A number of other provisions were attained during negotiations. The employer will receive a more flexible work scheduling arrangement and employees will receive some improvements to their benefit plan.

When revised, the collective agreement will be posted at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/HR.
